IGRUA is the national academy, run by the government rather than by a private operator, and that is why almost every article about the cost of flying training in India uses it as the yardstick. It is also, for our purposes, the most useful school in the country: its fees sit on a government page in a table, so you can check them yourself in a minute rather than asking somebody to email you a brochure.
The one trap is the number people quote. A much older figure still circulates on listing sites and in comparison articles, and it is well below what the academy currently charges. If a page quotes you an IGRUA fee that looks like a bargain against the rest of this directory, it is almost certainly quoting the stale one.
The other thing to understand about IGRUA is what its fee deliberately leaves out. A type rating is outside the academy's scope. Students finish here with a licence and then buy the type rating separately, usually at a training centre, and that purchase is larger than several of the smaller course fees in this directory.

Entry is by a written examination and an interview, followed by the pilot aptitude testing and the DGCA Class 1 medical, and intakes are advertised on the academy's own site rather than run continuously.
Because it is a government academy the seats are limited and the selection is genuinely competitive, which is the real barrier here rather than the fee.
