The Computer Number is the lifetime candidate ID DGCA gives you before you can book a single theory paper, and you apply for it on the Pariksha portal. The portal is at pariksha.dgca.gov.in.
What the number actually does.
The Computer Number is your identity inside DGCA's examination system. Bookings, results and admit cards are all filed under it, it does not change between papers or between attempts, and the booking form has nowhere to put you without it. It is issued once and it is yours for good, which is why it is worth applying for well before the first session you actually want to sit.
Keep the two portals straight. Parikshais the examination portal, run by DGCA's Central Examination Organisation, and it is where the Computer Number and every booking live. eGCA is the licensing portal. You will use both, and they are separate accounts.

A scan of the photo identity document you will carry to the exam centre
The order the portal asks for things in.
Go to pariksha.dgca.gov.in and choose New Candidate Registration. Pariksha is the examination portal, run by DGCA's Central Examination Organisation. It is not the same site as eGCA, which handles licensing.
Your name and date of birth are checked against that certificate. A middle name that is on one document and not the other is the single most common reason an application comes back.
The portal sends a one time password to an Indian mobile number and another to your email. Both have to be verified before the form will submit, so use an address you will still hold in five years.
Candidates from CBSE whose Class 10 and Class 12 records verify through DigiLocker have the Computer Number generated automatically on a successful application. Candidates from other boards follow a manual route, with documents sent to the Central Examination Organisation office.
Your login ID is the Computer Number with a P in front of it, written as P followed by the digits. Keep it somewhere permanent: it is the identity every future paper, result and admit card is filed under.
The Computer Number lets you book, it does not book anything for you. Booking opens for a few days per session and the fee is paid through Bharatkosh from inside the portal.
Steps follow DGCA's own Pariksha registration flow. Confirm anything that matters against pariksha.dgca.gov.in before you rely on it: the portal is changed by notice.
Four things, in the order we hear about them.
The name does not match. Pariksha checks your details against your Class 10 certificate. A dropped middle name, an initial expanded, a surname spelled the way everyone says it rather than the way the certificate prints it: all of these send an application back.
The mobile number is not Indian. The one time password goes to an Indian number. Students already training abroad regularly get stuck here.
The P prefix is missing at sign in. The Computer Number is the number; the login ID is that number with a P in front of it.
It is left until the booking window opens. The window is short and the number is not instant for every board. Apply first, book later.

Is the Computer Number the same as an eGCA registration?
No. Pariksha holds the examinations and the Computer Number; eGCA holds licensing and licence issuance. Candidates generally use both, and the two accounts are separate.
What is my login ID on Pariksha?
The Computer Number with a P in front of it. If you have the number but cannot sign in, that prefix is the first thing to check.
