Electronic Flight Information System: DGCA Air Navigation questions
Glass cockpits replace the compass card and needles with screens. The electronic horizontal situation indicator, or EHSI, draws the navigation picture in several modes: full rose, expanded VOR and ILS, map and plan. You must recognise each mode on sight.
The 8 questions here are almost all picture work. You name the mode on a sample screen, then read track, deviation and the course between two waypoints. Exam sessions have featured 1 of them.
On the usual EHSI, map mode is drawn track up while the expanded modes are heading up, so the figure under the top index changes meaning. Plan mode is oriented to true north, so the aircraft symbol can point anywhere.
