Compass and Directions: DGCA Air Navigation questions
A heading can be measured from true north, magnetic north or compass north. Variation links true to magnetic, and deviation, caused by the aircraft's own magnetism, links magnetic to compass.
Most of the 20 questions are conversion tables where you fill in true, magnetic and compass values from what is given. The remainder define variation, isogonals and the agonic line. Exam sessions have shown 2 of them.
The rule is variation east, magnetic least; variation west, magnetic best, and deviation follows it between magnetic and compass. Keep the order true, magnetic, compass, one correction per step. When a sum passes 360 or drops below zero, bring it back into range.
