AERONAUTICAL TELECOMMUNICATION SERVICE: DGCA Radio Telephony (R/T) questions

Two of the aeronautical telecommunication services are easy to blur. The fixed service links ground stations, with AFTN, the aeronautical fixed telecommunication network, carrying its messages. The mobile service is the radio link with aircraft, where your R/T calls belong.

The 30 questions lean on AFTN message categories, their two letter priority indicators and basic calling rules. Exam sessions have included 3 of these AFTN questions.

Distress messages take the priority indicator SS. Meteorological messages share GG with flight regularity and aeronautical information messages, so a NOTAM travels as GG traffic, not FF. A test signal lasts 10 seconds at most, and you wait at least 10 seconds before repeating an unanswered call.
