The ear does two jobs in flight. It hears, and through the vestibular apparatus it senses motion, which is where spatial disorientation begins.
The 23 questions are mostly definitions: the Eustachian tube, conductive deafness, noise induced hearing loss and presbycusis, then the otoliths, the semicircular canals, the leans and the Coriolis effect. A few ask about the central, peripheral and autonomic nervous systems. Exam sessions have set 1 of the questions in this chapter.
Do not swap the balance organs. The otoliths sense linear acceleration and gravity, and the semicircular canals sense angular acceleration. Decibels run on a logarithmic scale, so a rise of 3 dB doubles the sound intensity.
